As KTP competition winner, our Artificial Intelligence program is in it’s launch phase

March 15 / 2022

Over the next few years, we aim to develop, embed and exploit advanced smart manufacturing and data-driven machine learning techniques that can be implemented and adopted to deliver automated manufacturing process planning.

This initiative is co-funded by the UK’s innovation agency, Innovate UK and will be developed in partnership with the University of Manchester.

OE has been a subcontract manufacturer specialising in integrated manufacturing solutions for over 60 years. Having invested in manufacturing capability, OE is now
seeking to initiate collaboration with a leading HEI to significantly enhance in-house automation capability to support enhanced wealth creation that will propel our growth ambitions and competitiveness.
OE has identified the need to establish in-house smart manufacturing and data-driven machine learning techniques to establish automated manufacturing process planning, which is an industry-wide challenge. The knowledge and capability to deliver this project is not available within OE and the multifaceted nature of this innovation would preclude use of an external consultant, neither is it available in the marketplace.

The knowledge base supervisor is Charlie C. L. Wang. Charlie currently holds a Chair of Smart Manufacturing with the University of Manchester. Prior to this, he was a Chair of Advanced Manufacturing at Delft University of Technology and a Professor of Mechanical and Automation Engineering at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He also worked as a visiting professor at University of Southern California during sabbatical leave. Prof. Wang has received a number of awards from professional societies including the ASME
CIE Excellence in Research Award (2016) and the ISSMO/Springer Prize (2019). He was elected Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in
2013 and is currently chairing the Executive Committee of Solid Modelling Association (SMA).
